When Warren Ellis left comics for the greener pastures of Hollywood and book-writing, it left me slightly sad. His gruff voice of a disillusioned chain-smoking, whiskey-chugging Englishman is something that can lighten up even the blandest of superhero characters, so his presence was quite important to me. But Ellis still creates, even if he changed the medium, and his new book, Gun Machine, had just arrived into the stores. It has a trailer too.
And a very interesting one at that! It’s directed by Jim Batt, drawn by Ben Templesmith and narrated by Wil Wheaton. I like that it’s distinctly a book trailer, without any flash and loudness, but at the same time it’s visually-pleasing and even a bit hypnotizing. I’d watch/listen to the whole book if it was presented in such a way. Eh, there’s supposed to be a TV series in the works, so we’ll see.
Oh, and the book is about “Detective John Tallow [who] unwittingly stumbles across an apartment stacked high with guns. When examined, each weapon leads to a different, previously unsolved murder.” There’s some talk of conspiracy too. Possibly fun, need to investigate further.
